What are STP Edge Ports/Portfast?
Spanning Tree (STP) is running on all switch ports by default once the daemon is enabled. STP first LISTENS and LEARNS before FORWARDING traffic. It’s the LISTENING and LEARNING states that delays traffic from being delivered to end devices. The lack of FORWARDING during the LISTENING and LEARNING interval can cause IP address configuration failure from a DHCP server.
By configuring end device ports as STP edge ports, STP is not run on these ports and all forwarding occurs immediately when an end devices lights up the switch port. STP edge is equivalent to Cisco Portfast and described as such on NEXUS OS.
